Romania

The Romanian Foundation and Staff

The Romanian foundation is a well-respected, private, licensed Romanian agency that cares for the children in private foster family homes. The agency's office is located in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, as are all of the foster homes in which the children reside. The Director of the agency is an attorney who oversees the administrative and legal processing of each case, as well as the welfare of each and every child. The Director's wife is in charge of the foster care operations. She oversees the conditions of the foster homes and well-being of the children daily.

The foundation has a large support staff of attorneys, social workers, drivers, office assistants and pediatricians. The social workers provide home study and psychological evaluation services for the children and birth mothers. The pediatricians visit the foster homes to perform monthly well-baby/toddler check-ups, and to examine and treat the children as needed.

Foster Families

The foundation has approximately 50 foster families as part of its staff. Typically, a maximum of two children may be placed with a foster family. All adult members of a foster parent household are required to undergo a lengthy interview process in order to become a foster parent. In addition, they must submit to medical and psychological testing, and criminal history and police background checks. Foster families are provided with plenty of food, toys and clothing for the children. Most of the foster family homes are apartments in Bucharest. The foster families provide a healthful environment,

and give lots of love and affection to the children placed in their care. Adopting parents are given their child's foster family's home address so that they can send packages directly to their child. Adoptive and foster parents often write letters to one another. Adopting parents who travel to Romania to take custody of their child will get to meet their child's foster family.
